Coach of the year Dan Petersen
School: Cascade
Seasons: Eighth year
Team accomplishments:
Petersen led the Cascade girls cross
country team to a 13th place finish at the Class 3A state cross country
meet at Lane Community College. Cascade finished second in the Capital
Conference, despite the loss of four seniors from last year’s team.
Quoted: “I was really proud
of our girls team,” he said. “We
had to figure out a way to replace four of our varsity kids from last
year. I was very proud of this group of girls. They bonded well as a
team and they ran for each other.”

Linsie Michels All-Region Cross Country
School: Cascade
Year: Sophomore
Numbers: Michels won the
Capital Conference district cross
country meet at Bush’s Pasture Park. She covered the course in 19:17.6
to beat teammate Bernice Soto by more than a minute.
Coach says: “She’s a gifted
kid isn’t she?” Cascade coach Dan
Petersen said. “She’s as good of an athlete as there is in the state, I
think, one of the best all around athletes in the state. She just has a
passion for competition. And she just has an intense desire to be the
best. I think she puts the most pressure on herself. She’s never
satisfied if it’s not her best effort. I think her expectations are
always of the highest level.”
