RE: 2008 Meet of Champions

Date: January, 2008

Cascade and Sweet Home will be hosting the 30th version of the Girls and Boys Meet of Champions at Willamette University. The second year at Willamette proved to be as well received as the first year in 2006. This year’s meet is on Saturday, April 26th, 2008 at Willamette University in Salem. We believe and hope that this meet will be one of the highlights of the season for the athletes and coaches involved. Other than the respective state meets, this will be the best competition at our level that most of us will see all season long. The track at Willamette is a high quality facility and their staff is eager to continue to make this a quality meet. We will give this meet a “big meet” aura while still retaining the closeness of high school track competition.

The goal of the Meet of Champions is to bring together the best athletes from the 4A, 3A, 2A, and 1A ranks in a big meet format to showcase individual performance. With entries going out to schools in those classifications, we expect the level of competition to be excellent. As 2007 showed, each event sports eventual state champions and placers from all 4 levels. As usual, no team scores will be kept. The focus is individual performance so keep that in mind as you submit entries.

Qualifying standards are the same as in 2007. All automatic qualifiers are guaranteed entry and alternate times/marks will be used to round out the field. If the quality of entries permits, we are hoping to have three heats in most running events (excluding the distance runs) and 16-20 competitors in field events. Fully automatic timing (Finish Lynx) will be used in running events with Pyro Flash backup. Finish Lynx has built in wind gauge readings.

COACHES: All entries will be done via athletic.net. There is no other option. By using this website, we can download entries straight into Hytek for results and errors will be nonexistent or minimal. If this is a problem for you, contact Dan or Billy. Please use only times and marks from the 2007 season. Be accurate and honest. Also note that the alternate marks are only guidelines. We encourage you to send in any marks or times that are close to, yet short of the alternate marks/times. ENTRIES are DUE on Wednesday, April 23rd by NOON.

CONFIRMATION OF ENTRIES: Check the website on Wednesday, April 23rd (late evening) or Thursday April 24th for confirmation of entries and alternates. Also, any changes or last minute info, including a final time schedule, will be posted on the website also. If you have an athlete listed as in the meet who you know will NOT be competing, call Dan or Billy ASAP so we can notify the coach of the alternate in that event.

Attached you will find the tentative time schedule, general info sheets, and qualifying standards. A final time schedule will be developed when the actual field is completed. Any information can be obtained on the Cascade website which is <http://www.cascadesports.org/moc>

If you have any questions about the MOC, you may contact one of the individuals at the numbers below.

Thanks and we hope to see you on April 26th!
