Coaches Code of Conduct

Coaches Code of Conduct : Cascade Track & Field staff

  1. Be mindful never to shame an athlete, but to correct him/her in an uplifting way.  AFFIRMATION!
  2. Believe in every athlete. Remember “In youth is where miracles are made.”
  3. Be protective of our athletes. Be “Big” enough to “Build up” not “Tear down”. Our kids are getting pressured from a lot of variables we don’t often see.
  4. Remember it is our job to put each athlete in a position to maximize their potential by proper teaching and nurturing.
  5. Remember that each athlete is a part of our Cougar Track & Field Family and deserves a chance to succeed, deserves our respect. Strive to do a great job in practice of involving each athlete. No child should be allowed to be bored or not included in practice.
  6. Our staff can disagree in meetings (Staff) but never in front of athletes or anyone else outside of our T & F coaching family. Open dialogue is encouraged and expected .
  7. Hold dear our coaching fraternity. This staff “IS” and “WILL” be united. Lack of loyalty is unacceptable.
  8. If you do not know – say so and go get the appropriate information. Don’t bluff our athletes. Be prepared as coaches with practice plans, meet information, entry details.
  9. Support our Athletic Director, Administrators, fellow coaches. Always show respect to opposing coaches and athletes. Make it a practice to thank volunteers and officials and insist that our athletes do the same.
  10. Be considerate of parents. Remember “Every child is some Mothers Son/Daughter” and in their eyes a very special person. Always have time to speak to our athletes parents. Many of them become our greatest volunteers and supporters.
  11. Always show genuine concern for our athletes and each other. Try to inquire how each of are athletes are doing  on a daily basis.
  12. No profanity.
  13. Know the difference between shaming and positive coaching. Be enthusiastic, coach with great energy and enthusiasm, - Never coach negatively.
Regardless of our competitive record – we are successful if we carry out the above 13 items !
